Richland County Beef Producers 11th Annual Field Day!

Showing Off the Beef

On July 21, 2018 the Richland County Beef Producers and Richland County UW Extension will be holding the 11th annual field day at Kershner Cattle Company.   The farm is located on US Highway 14 East between Richland Center and Gotham.  Kershner Cattle Company is owned and operated by Oakley and Monica Kershner.  Oakley and Monica met at the Wisconsin State Fair in the mid 90’s both showing and fitting beef cattle. In 1996, Oakley bought the remainder of his Dads herd. From there, they continued raising beef cattle along with their five children, Haley (18), Mallory (17), Ty (14), Maggie (11), and Owen (7).  Their beef cow operation consists of multi breeds, focusing on seed stock and the show cattle industry. With extensive Artificial insemination (A.I) and Embryo transfer (E.T) work, they’ve been fortunate enough to produce, raise and show state & national champions. Kershner Cattle hosts an annual show calf sale in the fall every year. They sell breeding heifers, show steers, and bulls.

The program will begin at 4:00 p.m. with a farm tour and a discussion of the operation.  At 5:00 p.m., the Richland County Beef Producers will be grilling a steak dinner.  Following dinner, there will be two breakout sessions.  The first will be a talk by Dr. Michael Kieler, from Thousand Hills Embryo Transfer Service who will discuss embryo transfer within the beef herd.  The second break out will focus on showing and nutrition for youth Beef Projects.  This session will be presented by Lime Ridge Livestock Specialist, Rhiannon Benedetto.
